Artist's Description

Hocking Hills State Park is home to the Hocking River and its several scenic waterfalls that wind through canyons in the Appalachian region of Ohio, USA.

The dramatic rock formations are the result of uneven erosion caused by veins of “Black Hand Sandstone” which is softer than the surrounding material, creating caverns and canyons- or “hollows” as they are called in this area.

Cedar Falls, photographed here, gets its name from early settlers to the area who mistakenly believed that the abundant hemlock trees were cedar trees!

This photograph made in March, 2016, after a period of heavy rain, resulting in an unusually active waterfall (it’s normally more of a trickle).

Film photograph taken March, 2016.

About William Wetmore

William Wetmore

I sincerely hope you find beauty and relevance in my images. If you buy my artwork, please drop me an email to let me know what you liked about the image you chose! When I'm behind the camera, I seek out unusual subjects, new perspectives, and strive to capture the mood and totality of those subjects the way I see them. From minute details to wide vistas, each composition is considered and contemplated. I'm always looking for new ideas, and would be thrilled if you suggest topics of interest for me to attempt to capture. And, if you see something in here that you like, but...
