Description
This is the Oconaluftee River in Great Smokey Mountain National Park, North Carolina, USA. This river is a major geographic feature in this part of the park, and also extend through the Cherokee Indian Reservation, down stream from this location by about 45 minutes. This is known as one of the best trout fishing rivers in the US.
This location is easily accessible from the park entrance road which parallels it. On this day the river was running heavy with rain water, and although it was a warm summer day, the temperature in the shade was in the upper 70s, and the river water was in the mid 60s. Nice and cool!
Captured on ILFORD Delta 3200 120 roll film in a 1961 Graflex Century Graphic 2.25×3.25 camera. Settings were 3200ASA, f/32, 1/8s using a 47mm Shcneider Super Angulon lens with the table folded down. Under the thick forest canopy, relatively little light filters through, so this very high speed film was used. Then, the almost pinhole aperture of f/32 was chosen to get a longer duration exposure for the silky appearance of the running water.
