Artist's Description

Old Sheldon Church Ruins, Yemassee, South Carolina, USA.

This photograph captures the almost lightning-like structure of the old oak trees surrounding this 250+ year-old church ruins. It seems like the branches are reaching out to the ruins, like a very slow-motion lighting strike.

Ilford Delta 400 professional B&W film, 1961 Graflex Century Graphic, Xenar 105mm f/3.5, 400ASA, f/5.6, 1/30, blue filter.

“Church of Prince William’s Parish, known as Sheldon built between 1745-1755. Burned by the British Army 1779. Rebuilt 1826. Burned by the Federal Army 1865. Tablet placed by Columbia Committee South Carolina Society Colonial Dames of America 1937.” — Tablet mounted to front wall of the church.

Photograph made March, 2016 under an overcast sky between thunder and hail storms.

About William Wetmore

William Wetmore

From minute details to wide vistas, each composition is considered and contemplated. I'm always looking for new ideas, and would be thrilled if you suggest topics of interest for me to attempt to capture. And, if you see something in here that you like, but...
