Artist's Description
The base of a tall Australian Pine tree lays toppled along the southern tip of Sanibel Island, Florida, USA, in one of Sanibel’s municipal parks. The powdery white sand of this beach shifts and is regularly blown by storms; this tree is a testament to the power of distant hurricane Sandy in 2012, battering these shores despite it’s distant center, prior to the heavy devastation it visited upon the Northern states. The tree has become a stationary monument, weathered like driftwood.
This tree is part of a beautiful island landscape only a moment’s walk from the historic Sanibel lighthouse.
This photograph was made using Rollei Ortho 25ASA B&W film, shot in a Graflex Century Graphic camera outfitted with a Schneider-Kreuznach Xenar 105mm f3.5 lens and a Kalart Synchronized Rangefinder. This film is 120 roll film, and was loaded into a Graflex RH-8 back for 6×9 format photos; this actually captures 6.5×9 in this back. Hand developed and scanned on an Epson V800. Taken on a bright...
